|Resumen (Objetivos, Justificación, Metodología y Resultados)||
Objective: To determine the white matter tractography alterations in patients with intracranial, supratentorial tumors treated in Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, according to clinical and pathology data.
Methods: 30 patients with supratentorial intracranial tumors underwent magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tension imaging studies. The corticospinal tracts where identified in every case. Other regions of interest included the peritumoral and extratumoral white matter. Tractographies in the unaffected hemisphere where used as control studies. A Tractography Alteration Index (TAI) was created. It had a range from 0 to 5, and included a fiber density quantitative analysis and fiber shifting and fiber loss of continuity qualitative analysis. The results where correlated with the patient’s clinical condition and pathology data.
Results: 178 tractographies were reconstructed and 89 affected hemisphere tractographies were classified with the TAI. There was a significant difference in the mean TAI, according to histologic grades, glioblastoma diagnosis o not, extra or intraaxial origin and the presence of motor deficit or not.
Conclusions: The TAI is proposed as a useful tool for the objective analysis of tractographies in patients with intracranial tumor diagnosis.
